14300101 - Stick Control for the Snare Drummer by George Lawrence Stone

It is great to know this classic publication (and the Mother  of all drumming technique books) is still available. I've met few drummers or percussionists in my many years that have not been influenced by this book.
With over 40 pages of exercises ranging from the simple to the fairly difficult, this book offers much for the novice, the amateur and the professional.
Students, teachers, performers: own a piece of drum pedagogy history - "Stick Control"!

Instantly, after I pressed "Submit Review", I realized I had failed to rate this book. Let me restate the obvious: If ANY book is worthy of 5 stars, this is the book. Buy it.

Stick control is what it is all about...

...unless, it might be knowing where the measure starts! And, Stone's book is the epitome of what stick control is all about. Between this book and Podemski's Method, the rudimental drummer will have exceptional quality instruction. The concept is very, very simple, but the execution can be a killer. If you can play the first ten exercises without pulling out your hair, you are better than most--and they are the simple exercises. With exercises appropriate for the rudimental snare (eg. parade drum) and which are easily transferable to the drum kit, Stone's Stick Control produced many, many great rudimental drummers, whose technique is seen also in their playing on the drum set (regardless of the musical genre of choice, including swing, jazz, rock and every iteration thereof). One of my faves...
