Fifty years ago, I suppose everybody started with the excellent drum methods of Haskell Harr (One and Two). A few years later, Roy Burn's excellent beginning method became a standard for students...but, eventually (I suppose), everybody graduated to what I personally consider to be the best possible intermediate drum method--curriculum. If you can play Podemski well, you can play anything, if you are willing to show a little attention to detail. If memory serves me well (and I don't have the book before me--just went back to the studio to get it, but realized I still have it packed away after a recent studio remodel; sure need to get it out and play it again, Sam), I say if memory serves me, No. 23 was an audition piece for my HS Senior year position on the drum line. Used it with my own students, too. LOVE this book...buy it!
